Hello Andrew, For many years I have made still lifes, from working as an advertising photographer, photographing food, drink, to cars. Then as a college and university lecturer. Working with things, I find totally absorbing and now in retirement I often produce still lifes in series. I still use traditional methods, shooting on film and printing in the darkroom. Your Substack posts are superb, so please continue them. My work can be seen on instagram - m.pearson000056

Thank you for your kind comments and encouragement Martyn, I sometimes feel like I am shouting into a disused railway tunnel on here, I put a lot of effort into the posts and see very little response, so when someone takes the time to write it means a lot.

I rather enjoy still life photography. My favorite is tables after dinner before they are cleaned up. You have some lovely photos here! Really like the lead figures image. All lined up so neatly and perfect.

I’d echo Martyn. I really look forward to Monday evenings to read your Substack articles. Always great images and insights. Regards still life I enjoy creating these as I can do it all from the comfort of my home.

I find them a great opportunity to experiment with various soft focus lenses on my SL66 ( homemade + adapted etc)

I do feel a tension between natural vs contrived, something that is a matter of personal taste and judgement. Sometimes getting it wildly wrong!

I enjoy still life photography. Yours are wonderful examples. They looks so effortless, but I know from my own experience they aren‘t - especially if you work with natural light!

Hey Andrew, just my topic! I do enjoy putting as much clutter in the images as humanly possible though. Already found a new favourite image in the ones you showcased. All the best from the road!

Thanks mate, I was thinking about your work at one point when I wrote it. Which image are you referring to?

"Imaginary Landscape" just being able to read the piece of hanging wire on the back of the picture as a hillside, says a lot about how your mind works. Also I have a thing for discarded bits of wire...haha. Cheers mate. Love your work!

Beautiful article! I like still life’s. The silent subject that ‘sits’ still and never complains!😊. I love your photograph of the cauliflower. Who would day that vegetables can be so photogenic, don’t you agree?

Very encouraging Andrew - am beginning to learn how to create Still Life. For me it’s digital (i was so happy when i no longer had to use a dark room and those smelly chemicals) - seems like a good photographic challenge.

Thank you. Good luck with your still life.

I like the arabesque cauliflower photo.
