An anniversary thank you.

Something a little different this week: I have just passed my one year anniversary of writing weekly articles on Substack, and over the year I have had some great support and feedback. I began by having my purely technical articles available only to paid subscribers, but after a while I felt that I should make them accessible to everyone.

The reason for this is that, although I appreciate that paid subscribers ought to get something that free readers do not, I really think it is important that I get my knowledge and experience out to as many people as possible before I start forgetting it, and so far my paid subscribers have been very supportive of that.

As a thank you to those who have paid, I am emailing a digital file that can be printed as a high quality Giclee up to 20x30 cm. I shall continue to do this every year whilst I am publishing.

The picture was taken on the 12th of October 2025, using a Fuji 6x9 camera on Ilford HP5. The film was processed in Ilford ID11 and the negative was scanned and tweaked to get it to look as close as possible to the way I would have printed it in the darkroom.

I often take a few phone snaps when I am out shooting landscapes, as this gives me an accurate date to write on the negative bag. It also reminds me what lens I was using and other useful information. Here are a few of those from the day:
